The Commitment of Premiere Academy to Students’ Safety Online: Cybersecurity Awareness

Breaking security and gaining access to very sensitive online information and data; such as Bank financial information, National identity, criminal investigation records, Email messaging database, educational and examination records such as Jamb, WAEC are of utmost concern to any nation, society or organisation.

Therefore, salient steps are taken year-in year-out to guard against these threats as they do occur and aren't stopping anytime soon.

Due to the recurring potential damaging effect of this risk, that keeps changing its approach, organisations sought for latest updates in cyber security, without minding the cost, so as to stay one step ahead and mitigate these unpleasant circumstances.

This is without the exemption of students who have now grown accustomed to using online platforms for a vast majority of their learning programmes, such as JAMB online exams , SAT exams, E - Learning and Email messaging.
They need to be taught of these schemes used by cyber thieves in order to be aware and take precautions.

With this in mind, Premiere Academy took the initiative to provide a safe and secure digital environment for all her students, by collaborating with the Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN ) to host a Cyber security and Online Child Protection Awareness Session.

This initiative will highlight the importance of educating students about online safety in our increasingly digital world.

CSEAN, a leading organization in cyber security awareness, has been instrumental in fostering a culture of security consciousness across various sectors of society. Their dedication to safeguarding our digital landscape perfectly aligns with the core values of Premiere Academy.

Students were taught in details about the methods and schemes used by cyber criminals. Such as:

Phishing (impersonating emails from fake mail providers) in order to make one disclose personal and sensitive information on trust. An example is a fake bank representatives asking for bank details.

Invitations to click links that look unknowingly suspicious . Such links could open the doorway to malicious attacks on your phone, computer or school's network system and eventual corrupt school data or other sensitive records

The use of unascertained and unscanned storage drives that are inserted to the system could gain access to the network and infect the entire organisation's network system, thereby creating back doors for cyber thieves to make changes or steal information.

Using very simple guessable passwords on very important online platforms. As there are many sources to generate email database online, the only safety net is using a very strong password to secure entry to your profile.

Using systems belonging to strangers to access platforms and forgetting not to save their passwords on these systems, such as cyber cafes and so on.

Cyber security awareness is essential for students and staff to protect themselves from these risks. By understanding the different types of cyber threats and how to mitigate them, students can take steps to safeguard their devices, data, and privacy.
Cyber security awareness is the knowledge and understanding individuals have about protecting digital systems and data. It involves recognizing cyber threats, understanding associated risks, and adopting safe practices.

The session, which was immensely beneficial for both students and staff, covered the prevailing cyber security landscape, emerging threats, and best practices for online safety. Students and staff members gained valuable insights into the critical importance of maintaining a secure digital environment and learned eye-opening tips and tricks to help them feel more confident and in control whenever they are online. Sarah, one of our own students, aptly put it: "I never realized how vulnerable we could be online. The tips and tricks shared were eye-opening. Now, I feel more confident and in control whenever I'm online." Sarah's testimony resonates as a powerful example of the tangible impact of such initiatives.

The session was not just an event; it was a catalyst for change. The knowledge gained here goes beyond the classroom and transcends into everyday life. In this digital age, educating our students about online safety is paramount. The Cyber security and Online Child Protection Awareness Session is a crucial step towards creating a safer digital environment for all members of the Premiere Academy community.
Premiere Academy's commitment to safeguarding her students in the ever-evolving digital landscape is commendable. The school's collaboration with CSEAN to host the Cyber security and Online Child Protection Awareness Session is consistent with its unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all.
We look forward to continuing this journey of learning and safeguarding in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
